”The Paris of the North, is one of the nicknames of Tromsø. One of the misperception of this is that Tromsø has a huge amount of cafes and clubs, like Paris. However, once in the 1800-century, a German merchant came to the city, he was surprised that the people was so up to date on the fashions from Paris - hence the name. Another nickname is "Gateway to the arctic sea". The explanation to this is that numerous expeditions to the arctic has had the starting point from Tromsø. Therefore you'll find attractions with themes like polar history and arctic areas. |
